According to the Energy Medicine Institute Energy Medicine is both a complement to other approaches to medical care and a complete system for self-care and self-help. It can address physical illness and emotional or mental disorders, and can also promote high-level wellness and peak performance.
The body heals by activating its natural healing energies, by restoring energies that have become weak, disturbed, or out of balance and by eating foods that are charged with natural nutritional energy.
To accomplish this goal, Energy Medicine utilizes techniques from healing modalities such as acupuncture, acupressure, healing touch, reiki, yoga, kinesiology, Qi gong, etc. Flow, balance, and harmony can be non-invasively restored and maintained within the human body energy system by tapping, massaging, pinching, twisting, or connecting specific energy points (acupoints) on the skin; by tracing or swirling the hand over the skin along specific energy pathways; through exercises or postures designed for specific energetic effects; by focused use of the mind to move specific energies; and/or by surrounding an area with healing energies (one person’s energies impacts another’s).
Energy medicine is used to enhance the natural healing ability of the body, to relieve pain; to stop the onset of illness as soon as it begins, stimulate immune function, relieve headaches, release stress, improve memory, enhance digestion, relieve arthritis, neck, shoulder, and low back pain, and cope with electromagnetic pollution.
According to Wikipedia, the term “energy medicine” has been in general use since the founding of the non-profit International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine in the 1980s. Energy medicine often proposes that imbalances in the body’s “energy field” result in illness, and that by re-balancing the body’s energy-field health can be restored.
The United States government through its National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) distinguishes between health care involving scientifically observable energy, which it calls “Veritable Energy Medicine”, and health care methods which invoke physically undetectable or unverifiable energies, which it calls “Putative Energy Medicine”
At the B.R.E.A.T.H Center, we concentrate on offering services that fall in the category of “Putative Energy Medicine” that include Biofield Energy Healing therapies where the hands are used to direct or modulate “energies” which are believed to effect healing in the patient; this include techniques such as: Therapeutic Massage, Healing Touch, Magnet Therapy, Reiki, Body-Field Alignment, QiGong, Pranic Healing, Prayer, etc. Acupressure, Acupuncture and Ayurvedic Medicine are also included within this category.
